Wood River—Catherine Tardino, 87, passed away at 10:12 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2017 at her home.
Born Oct. 19, 1929 in Mazara del Vallo, Italy, she was a daughter of Giacomo and Maria (Pipitone) Cuttone.
She married Vincent John Tardino Sept. 6, 1952 in Mazara del Vallo. He preceded her in death Feb. 25, 2006.
Catherine worked for C&F Manufacturing and later retired as a seamstress for the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George. She was an excellent cook and loved to sew and spend time with her family and grandchildren. She also was a member of the Wood River Moose Lodge and Daughters of Isabella.
Survivors include a daughter, Laura Tardino of Wood River; a son, Jack (Lee Ann) Tardino of Bethalto; 4 grandchildren, Ryan Tardino, Andrew (Erin McDonald) Tardino, Andrea (Kyle) Ilges, and Alyssa Tardino; a great granddaughter, Avery Tardino; a brother, Nino Cuttone and a sister, Maria Cleria Vassallo, both of Italy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Tardino; a sister, Pina Cuttone; and her brothers John, Girolama, Leonard, and Giuseppe Cuttone.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26 at Paynic Home for Funerals. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
Burial will follow at Woodland Hill Cemetery in East Alton.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
