John W. Rhodes, 71, of Bethalto, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018, in Alton, at St. Anthony’s Health Center.
John was born on January 4, 1947 in Carlinville, IL, the son of Charles and Rita (Costello) Pitchford, who have preceded him in death. He married Renee S. Hornback on April 3, 1971 in St. Louis, MO. She survives.
John is a veteran of the United States Air Force, which he served four years. He was an Engineer Technician for Illinois Dept of Transportation for 36 years. John was also a member of St. John’s UCC in Wood River. He drove a senior bus for the city of Bethalto as a volunteer. John enjoyed going on vacations and playing with his grandchildren.
John is also survived by 3 children, Jonathan (Rachael) Rhodes, Brian (Ashleigh) Rhodes, and Samantha Rhodes; 5 grandchildren, Chloe, Hayleigh, Mason, Sevan, and Nyk; 2 sisters, Kay Deucker and Patricia (Jim) DeGuire; a brother, Paul (Sharon) Rhodes as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He is also preceded in death by an infant brother, Charles Pitchford; a sister-in-law, Rayetta Hornback; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Raymond and Fanetta Hornback.
Visitation will be from 5 pm until 6:30 pm on Friday, January 19, 2018, at St. John’s UCC in Wood River. A memorial service will follow at 6:30 pm.
