Charles "Chuck" Alan Mellor, 67, died at home Saturday morning, November 17, 2018.
Born in wood River on January 2, 1951, he was the son of Charles V. and Essie L. (Wells) Mellor.
He graduated from East Alton-Wood River High School and was a proud member of the "Class of 69".
Chuck was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving four years from January 31, 1969 to December 5, 1972. He spent one tour in the Brown Water Navy in Vietnam and a second time on the USS Somers and USS Kitty Hawk.
He was employed with Shell Oil Company, hiring in 1972 and retiring in 2010 as an operator at the cat cracker unit. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399 AFL-CIO, a life member of the Wood River VFW Post 2859, and a life member of the DVA (Disabled Veterans Association).
He married Debbie S. (Wilcox Mellor on June 22, 1974 in Hartford, and were married 44 years.
He is survived by his wife; three children and their spouses, Charles Allen (Stephanie) Mellor of Hartford, Mitzi Michele (Levi) Rankin of Fosterburg, Mindi Michele (Rickey) McDaniels of Hartford; five grandchildren, Ava Liv Mellor, Chaz Phoenix Mellor, Keegan Farmer Rankin, Mazie Michele Rankin, Elara River McDaniels; three siblings, Marty (Karen) Mellor of Chelmsford, MA, Penny (Sam) Pierce of Roxana and Rick Mellor of Alton.
Preceding in death were his parents; brother-in-law, Ned Wilcox; father-in-law, Amil Wilcox; and nephew, Tom Mellor.
Chuck was a great husband, father and grandfather. He was someone we loved very much and respected. He was such a big presence in our family and will forever be missed.
Per Chuck's request, he will be cremated and his burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
Marks Mortuary in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
