ALTON - Marquette Catholic High School’s baseball team won its 19th regional championship in program history Saturday, May 30, 2026, defeating Gillespie 6-4 in the IHSA 2A Gillespie Regional to advance to the sectional round next week.
The Explorers will play sectional host Pleasant Plains at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Eli Rodgers led Marquette with two hits and two RBIs. Keller Jacobs, Jack Pea, Joe Stephan, Kooper Morrissey, Carson Bauer, Chris Hankins, and Toby Matthews each had hits. Jacobs, Rea, Stephan, and Matthews also recorded RBIs.
Eberlin earned the win for Marquette, striking out three over four innings. Matthews pitched the final two innings in relief.
The Marquette baseball team members are Tucker's Automotive Repair & Tire Male Athletes of the Month.
Pleasant Plains advanced to face Marquette after beating Rochester 4-1 in the other regional semifinal game.
