PIASA - Southwestern's Thor Springman concluded his season at the IHSA 1A Boys State Track and Field finals in the 3,200-meter run.

Springman was the sectional 3,200-meter champion before state with a remarkable time of 10:05.30, then he recorded a 10:22.84 at state for 27th place. He also broke the Southwestern 3,200-meter record set by Jed Brown in 1991 on April 11, 2026, with a time of 9:58.04. Brown's previous record was 10:14.3.

Springman is an Altonized Community Federal Credit Union Male Athlete Of The Month for the Piasa Birds.

Springman placed first in the conference meet with a time of 4:45.29 in the 1,600 meters. He was second in the conference in the 3,200 with a time of 10:23.07.

The Southwestern runner was only a junior this season, so he has one more fall of cross country and then another spring of indoor and outdoor track and field in 2027.

The future looks very bright for the Southwestern distance sensation.
