Located at 1853 Vaughn Road in Wood River, the new primary care facility will see all patients over age 2. While not technically a prompt care clinic, the facility offers same-day appointments as well as family medicine services, including well visits and sports physicals. McConkey and Reid agreed that the facility’s goal is to help local patients receive the personalized care they need.

“I like to think that each clinic has a personality,” McConkey said. “We’re going to have to see what the need is. But our goal is to find out what the needs are for Wood River and meet them however that looks like. We’re not trying to replicate Alton and Godfrey, because that’s not what they need.”

McConkey added that plans to build the clinic predate her time at OSF. The organization recognized that Wood River is a “primary care desert,” with few options for care.

While OSF has clinics in Alton and Godfrey, the organization realized that Wood River needed that same support. Instead of expanding their work at the Alton and Godfrey clinics, they decided to build a new space in Wood River to help these patients.

“The people do need primary care there, so with that, I think we’ve made it a lot more accessible to the public,” Reid said. “Just talking to some of my past patients and stuff, they were super excited about the fact that it seems like everybody lives just down the road.”

Reid added that she completed her clinical time at Godfrey’s OSF clinic, and she was impressed to discover that her colleagues were “so friendly” and always “had your back.” This encouraged her to begin work at OSF full-time, and now she is one of the main providers at the Wood River clinic.

Reid and McConkey are excited to welcome patients to the clinic. Their goal is to ensure patients have the support they need.

“It’s very important for my patients to be heard and to know that they are, to form that relationship that you can trust everything that we do and how we do it,” Reid explained. “I like to get to know people. I don’t want to just have a number. I want to know the whole family. And so many times, we do have that opportunity. The families come in, but now we’re going to be able to see all of them.”

McConkey added that the clinic will expand in the coming months as staff get to know the community and understand its needs. The OSF team hopes they can help patients and promote wellness in Wood River and beyond.

“For right now, I really wanted to really get the ball rolling and get as many people in the door as possible, because I know Wood River has needed care for a while,” McConkey said. “Honestly, this next year is going to be research. Who’s coming through our door? Who needs to come through our door? What kind of care do we need to offer? And how can we expand in a way that directly meets what Wood River needs right now?”

As the Wood River OSF clinic begins welcoming patients, Reid and McConkey encourage people to call 618-467-1580 to make their appointments. You can click here for more information about the OSF Medical Group’s primary care option in Wood River.
