Spiller, who plays for coach Billy Sullivan, is viewed as a key piece for the Oilers after showing his scoring and overall basketball ability in summer league play at the Wood River Recreation Center against several area teams.
Mark Beatty, the East Alton-Wood River athletic director who directs the overall summer basketball and volleyball programs, said Spiller will likely be counted on as the Oilers' leading scorer in the upcoming 2026-2027 campaign. Beatty said Spiller demonstrated his talent throughout the Oilers' matchups in the summer league.
“He has a lot of ability as an incoming senior,” Beatty said. “He scores quite a bit. If he gets his shooting percentage a little higher, the sky is the limit for him and the other Oilers."
Beatty describes Spiller as "very athletic" on the floor and noted that he typically plays soccer as a dual-sport athlete. He is also a soccer standout with extreme quickness on the field.
Coach Sullivan is happy with Spiller’s development and believes the senior appears primed and ready for success in 2026-27.
