Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Illinois

At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Illinois, Volunteering is Fun - Big Time.

Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is one of the most enjoyable and fulfilling things you’ll ever do. You can help shape a child’s future for the better by empowering them to achieve. And the best part is, it’s actually a lot of fun. You and your Little can share the kinds of activities you already like to do.  We’re always looking for people eager to positively impact a child and improve their community at the same time. And, right now is no different. For a few hours, a couple times a month, you can give a Little the invaluable gift of your friendship. By simply changing their perspective of what the world can offer, you can literally start changing their lives. And sometimes it’s as simple as playing video games, going to a museum, or just hanging out together.

Big Brothers are especially in high demand.  More than 70% of our children waiting for a Big are boys, but only 3 out of every 10 inquiries to volunteer come from men. Research shows that having the positive influence of a Big Brother makes a real difference in a boy's life. So join the hundreds of thousands of volunteers that give a young person someone to look up to. And learn why so many are now saying, “I get back so much more than I give.”

If you're not ready to commit to becoming a Big, but still want to be involved we have many ways you can do so! Whether it's hosting a book drive or a school supply drive, serving on our one of our Event Committees, adopting a family during the holidays, or supporting us in some other way we look forward to hearing from you. Ready to help out?  Visit us at or call (618) 398-3162 and start something today!

Free Summer Lunch Program

Monday – Friday; June 4, 2018 – August 10, 2018
Pick-up from 11:30 – 12:30 pm at The Meadow Drive Park & Tri Township Library
View the Flyer and View Free Summer Lunch Letter
This program has become a great success and has helped so many families during the summer.  We have joined forces with a few churches in Troy during the past years, which has been wonderful, but it is time to ask others in our community for help.  Due to the overwhelming request for lunches during the summer we are in need of monetary & food items donations along with volunteers to help at one or both of the locations.  Please contact Monica at Friedens United Church of Christ if you would like to join in on our fight to stop hunger in our community.

Lunches are served form Monday – Friday.  On Friday we give weekend backpacks at the Meadow Drive Park location for the weekend.  3 people per location has seemed to work in the past. Bagged lunched will need to be premade and ready for distribution at the location at 11:30am. If your business needs a location to make the lunches, you are more than welcome to you to use our kitchen for set up. The library is still allowing us to use the “green space” behind the building for distribution of the lunches.  Once we have a good number of helpers there will be a list of contacts and a schedule of days to follow.

(for bag lunches) small brown bags, sandwich bags, bottle water, bread, lunch meat, peanut butter, jelly, fruit snacks. – It’s pretty much a sandwich, a fruit, a sweet treat, a water and small snack)
(for Friday back packs) -Meadow Drive Park location only- peanut butter, Jelly, bread, cans of pasta (family size), box cereal, breakfast bars, fruit snacks.  On Friday’s we usually order from a fast food restaurant in Troy, so gift cards are a great way to help.
