Mother's Day at Bluff City Outdoors

My name is Shairetha and I am the mother of three beautiful children. I have two sons and one daughter. My favorite responsibility in the entire world is being a mother. Watching my children grow has been amazing. They are each very unique in their own way.

My oldest son, Isaiah, always ask me about my day, when I arrive at the Boys & Girls Club to pick him up. My middle son, Elijah, gives me forehead kisses and tells me that he loves me every single day, no matter if he's mad at me or grounded. Both of my sons are little gentlemen that open the door for me if I'm getting out of my car, walking into the store, or even just going home. I never have to touch a door. And then, there is My Little Princess Jasmine, who is the youngest of my three. She helps me clean and she's very caring. She knows when I am tired and often offers to help in any way.

I do my best to spend as much time with my kids as possible, while working two jobs. I want my kids to feel the way that I feel about my mom when I get older.

My mother is Felecia McMurray, and she is part owner of Bluff City Outdoors in Alton. My mother is an amazing woman and she carries multiple titles. My mom works out of town, but when she is in town she has no problem taking my little ones to the doctor if I need her to, or watching my little ones when I have to work my second job. Even with my mom being on the road for 2 hours on top of her 12 hour shift, she still does not hesitate to help me.

My mom and I have a wonderful relationship and as an adult, I still call her everyday. The relationship and unbreakable bond that I have with my mom, is the same type of relationship that I want to maintain with my children. I think having a relationship with your child is very important and crucial to a child's future.

A lot of mothers really don't have time to do extra curricular activities with their children, because their funds are low, or they are too tired to just read a bedtime story, because they have just worked 16 hours prior to picking up their kid. I remember this situation when I was growing up with my mom, but I recognize that with those 16 hour shifts that she would work, she still found time to make it to my basketball game or watch me cheer. And, I knew she was tired.

Mother's Day at Bluff City Outdoors is free and open to the public. This event includes an activity that will allow kids to create a Mother's Day gift, right in front of their mom, to show appreciation. This event will also have a Mommy and me selfie and portrait contest, that will include cash prizes. And, there will be vendor shops, such as Scentsy, Hopson Travel agency, Brenda's Beautiful $5 Jewels, color Street, Itzbomb Aesthetic, and Rea Rose Boutique!
