About this event

A new book by three local authors is helping shed light on the opioid crisis crippling our region. Heartbroken: Grief and Hope Inside the Opioid Crisis features personal stories of seven local parents who have lost children to opioid addiction, showcasing how this class of drugs is devastating regular households throughout the region. The book focuses on reducing stigma associated with addiction and also provides details on the history of opioid addiction in the U.S., explains why use of opioids has skyrocketed in recent years and offers solutions to help prevent drug abuse, as well as strategies to provide healing and hope to families who have lost loved ones to drug addiction.

Authors Ellen Krohne, Matthew Ellis and Diana Cuddeback are officially launching Heartbroken during a book signing event on Thursday, Aug. 29, at Main Street Brewing Co. Banquet Center (6435 W. Main St.) in Belleville, Ill. The event – set to take place the same week as International Overdose Awareness Day – is being held in honor of those lost to addiction and in support of the loved ones they left behind. The book is available to purchase on Amazon.com and familyhospice.org, as well as at Annette’s Flowers and Gifts in Okawville, Ill. All profits from the sale of the book will benefit Heartlinks Grief Center. For more information, visit www.ellenkrohne.com.
