About this event

Experience a unique piece of 1820s history at the 1820 Col. Benjamin Stephenson House with the St. Louis Shape Note Singers on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 1 PM to 3 PM. Shape note singing, a form of acapella music popular in the 1820s, features religious tunes in four-part harmony and will be performed using music from The Missouri Harmony book, first published in 1820, the year Stephenson House construction began.

This free event is limited to 15 guests (ages 16+), and reservations are required. Observers are welcome, but this is a participation event, not a performance. Loaner music books will be available for those wishing to join in.

To secure your spot, please reserve your tickets online, and bring your online receipt to present at the gift shop upon arrival. If you can’t attend after reserving, please notify the site to offer your tickets to others.

Don’t miss this opportunity to step back in time and immerse yourself in the harmonious traditions of the early 19th century.
