Missouri officials are currently working on the procurement process of the I-270 North project, finalizing the decisions of who is going to work where on the project. The goal is to have a completely revamped highway open by the end of 2023, so MoDOT is planning to award the project later this year, with a groundbreaking in the spring of 2020.
The interstate was built in the 1960's, so engineers say there is a need for a massive overhaul to the aging highway to improve safety, accessibility, traffic congestion, and the aging infrastructure. Project Communications Coordinator Nina Thompson tells The Big Z there will be impacts on commuters during that period, but believes the end result will be worth the inconvenience.
