Ameren Illinois recently awarded Senior Services Plus in Alton $80,000 from its AmerenCares COVID-19 Community Relief program. Ameren, with their employees and Board of Directors, contributed more than $800,000 to 10 recipients in their service area, of which Senior Services Plus was one.
Senior Services Plus said in a statement the money will be used to help increase food production in their own organic farm by purchasing additional equipment, as well as support the start-up of their Co-op at the SSP School House Acres Farm to benefit the community. SSP plans to provide educational opportunities for schools and experimental learning and locally grown food for the community. During COVID-19, the center has tried to increase Meals on Wheels offerings, food care packages and fresh produce bags to seniors in need.
