UPDATE 4/16/21 Kohl Bertels was taken into custody by Bethalto Police today and will be transported to the Madison County Jail in lieu of the $150,000.00 bond set in this case.
(Previous story) No one was injured in an alleged armed carjacking Monday night in Bethalto. Police were called after a female reported her car was stolen at gunpoint just after 10pm from a home in the 800 block of Circle Drive.
Bethalto Police Chief Mike Dixon tells The Big Z this appears to be a situation in which an ex-boyfriend took the car of his ex-girlfriend.
The car was recovered a few hours later in Meadowbrook, and Dixon stresses this was obviously not a random incident.
