Bethalto Police may soon be listening to a dispatcher from Wood River. There has been a statewide initiative to consolidate dispatching operations into larger regions in recent years, complete with a mandate that it must be done. While some Madison County communities are yet to do so, it is inevitable that all eventually will.

Bethalto Mayor Alan Winslow tells The Big Z the village board this week approved a resolution to approve negotiating with Wood River for dispatching services.

He says with current staffing issues it is best to move forward now. Winslow hopes to have an agreement within the next week or two.
