License plate reader cameras on the Clark Bridge in Alton are showing their benefit, and have been for months. That's the word from the Alton Police Chief and many officers who work with the cameras on a regular basis.
Alton Police Support Services Commander, Lieutenant Seth Stinnett tells The Big Z the cameras were placed on the bridge last February, and almost immediately started to perform as expected.

Stinnett says the cameras work so well, he wouldn't be surprised to see them pop up in other places around the region. Multiple city officials have repeatedly reassured these cameras could not and would not be used as a revenue-generator for the city.
