A Thursday morning police pursuit ended with a crash in South Roxana and a former area man charged with five felonies. Police say 30-year-old Christopher W. Hamby – who now calls Jessieville, Arkansas home - was throwing items out of the window of the vehicle he was driving as police chased him through several jurisdictions.
It apparently began in Bethalto, followed by a trip to Alton, then to Wood River where police eventually ended the pursuit as he allegedly drove his vehicle into a school zone in a reckless manner. Police say he continued and crashed into a vehicle on Illinois Rt. #111 at Acton Avenue, continuing, and finally crashed into another vehicle on Illinois Rt. #111 at Broadway in South Roxana. Hamby was taken into custody by officers from the South Roxana, Roxana, and Wood River Police Departments. He is charged with Armed Violence, Unlawful Possession with the Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Weapons by a Felon, Criminal Damage to Property over $500, and Aggravated Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer.
