The future of the Citizen's Bank Building in East Alton is not looking good for those that want to save the building. About five years ago, East Alton Mayor Joe Silkwood said on The Big Z there was a plan to demolish the building and turn it into green space, but he says the hope remains it can be repurposed.
A developer that had been in talks to buy the building about a year ago disappeared. Silkwood tells The Big Z time is running out, as the village has reached out to Congressman Mike Bost to see if any money for demolition is available through the recent stimulus package.

In a previous interview, Silkwood said the building is for sale for $1, but the "right use" for redevelopment would have to be presented to the village to proceed with the sale. The building was built in 1964.
