The proposed Clean Energy Jobs Act sets a goal of moving Illinois to 100% renewable energy by 2050. An Ameren Illinois spokesman says they also want to move to renewable energy, but the quick timeline set by lawmakers will lead to higher customer utility bills.
It’s a strategy that Ameren Illinois spokesman Tucker Kennedy tells The Big Z would also phase out fossil fuel powered energy plants by the end of the decade.

Ameren predicts a $20 billion rise in total rates over the next 30 years for their 1 million downstate customers, which could mean an increase of 23% on the monthly bills. Clean energy legislation is currently making its way through the Illinois Senate and House. HB 804 is currently awaiting action on the House floor.
