As harvest season begins, the Illinois Department of Agriculture is highlighting some of the dangers associated with the industry. That includes being careful on rural roads. There have already been two fatalities in Illinois, one involving a car vs. tractor crash.

Illinois Department of Agriculture director John Sullivan reminds this is going to be a longer harvest season due to the late start many farmers got on planting.

The tractor accident occurred in Whiteside County last Saturday when a car attempted to pass a tractor but impacted the tractor’s carriage. A passenger in the car, a nine-year-old girl, died as a result of the mishap. A grain bin fatality occurred last Thursday in Mercer County, killing a 66-year-old man after he fell into a silo.
