One man was injured and firefighters worked to contain a fire at the Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery on Sunday afternoon. The fire was located in one of the main crude oil processing units, and triggered an explosion that witnesses say was felt nearby. It was seen for around ten miles, around 4:30 pm.
According to Melissa Erker, a spokesperson for the WRB Refinery in Wood River, the incident was quickly contained by the firefighters who responded.

Erker said all employees were accounted for shortly after the explosion. One worker who suffered minor injuries at the scene of the explosion was reportedly able to walk himself to an ambulance on the refinery. The other processing units continue to operate while an investigation into the cause of the explosion and fire is under way.
