It’s filing day for those wanting to run on the spring Primary ballot for political office. It’s already been a busy day at the Madison County Clerk’s office, with a number of candidates submitting their nominating petitions. There are seats open for several spots, including county-wide seats, precinct committeemen, and 10 county board seats.

Madison County Clerk Debbie Ming-Mendoza tells The Big Z one of the races receiving the most attention is the one for State’s Attorney.

There are at least two potential candidates running for the Democratic nomination: First Assistant State's Attorney Crystal Uhe, and former employee of that office, Susan Jensen. Current State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons decided late Wednesday of last week not to run for reelection, instead seeking a spot on the bench that will be vacated in about a year with the retirement of Circuit Judge David Hylla.
