A Collinsville man has been sentenced to five years in prison for stomping a cat. 51 year old William Ledbetter pleaded guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals in a case that goes back to October of 2018 in East Alton. Police were called after he and another man were witnessed committing the crime.
Ledbetter is also a convicted sex offender, but prosecutors dropped enhanced charges in the case in exchange for the guilty plea. Police say Ledbetter and another man stomped a cat and put it into a dog food bag. Also charged in connection with the case is 53 year old Kenneth Rogers of East Alton, and his case is still pending in Madison County Court.
