A benefit concert for flood relief will be held this evening in Alton. The concert will feature the Encounter Youth Choir, local praise and worship leaders Mark and Marqueta Goins and others to raise money for local charities that are helping in the flood recovery. The concert is at 7:30pm at Calvary Baptist Church on Washington Avenue in Upper Alton.
The Encounter Choir was originally scheduled to sing at Chautauqua this evening, but the concert was cancelled due to flooding. While the flooding has subsided, it was not possible to hold the event in the midst of the flood clean up, so the group decided to hold a benefit. There is no admission tonight, but a free-will offering will be taken up with all money collected going to local groups and charities assisting with the clean-up and recovery, and those groups will be announced tonight. The concert should run about 90 minutes.
