Even though the possibility for spring flooding has been slightly downgraded by the National Weather Service, agencies in Madison County are still getting ready. The Metro East Sanitary District and Madison County Emergency Management Agency are both assuring area residents they are ready as the Mississippi rises out of its banks this spring.
MESD Executive Director Stephen Adler tells The Big Z that flooding in areas along the river can actually create interior flooding if precautions are not taken, and notes that the pumps are ready to remove any rain that gets trapped behind the levees.

While river stage predictions have varied in recent weeks, most predictions still show at least minor to moderate flooding can be expected along area rivers into early April.
