An Edwardsville man was sentenced to 6 years in prison in a drunk driving case that resulted in the death of another motorist. 35-year-old Markia Ivy of Edwardsville was killed on July 12, 2018 when the motorcycle she was operating was struck by a car driven by 51-year-old David Sterling, II. He admitted in court he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Sterling entered a guilty plea on Tuesday in Madison County Court where he was then given a 6-year sentence, of which he will have to serve at least 85-percent. The crash took place on New Poag Road near Wanda Road and at the time, Sterling’s blood alcohol level was (0.155) well above the legal limit of (0.08). In exchange for the guilty plea, charges of aggravated DUI, reckless homicide and unlawful use of an electronic device were dropped.
