Over the last week, the Southwestern School District’s superintendent’s office has issued notices about a couple of health concerns. In one dated last Friday the issue was a student with whooping cough. On Tuesday, it was revealed one confirmed case of chickenpox had been reported.

In both instances, these appear to be isolated occurrences, according to Superintendent Kyle Hacke. He says they don’t want to overreact, but don’t want to underreact either, and plan to carry on with a normal schedule of activities. As with most sicknesses, local health departments say washing your hands frequently and staying home if sick are two suggestions that can do a lot of good in containing illness.
