A young woman who allegedly falsified documents in order to get a job as an attorney will undergo a fitness exam to see if she is able to stand trial. 26 year old Kelcie Miller of Edwardsville is charged with felony theft, forgery and false impersonation of an attorney. She worked for the Madison County Public Defender Office until being fired in May.
Miller's court appointed attorney asked for the psychological exam to see if she fully understands the charges and if she can assist in her defense. The charges allege Miller falsified her law license to show she had passed the bar exam, but apparently later admitted she failed the exam twice. Public Defender John Rekowski reportedly discovered the issues in May and fired Miller. She is also facing charges in the Rockford area of writing bad checks for rent she owed there.
