An Alton woman charged in connection with the diabetes-related death of her daughter has been sentenced to seven years in prison. 41-year-old Amber L. Hampshire pleaded guilty to one count of Involuntary Manslaughter last fall. She was charged in the death of 14-year-old Emily Hampshire in December 2018, accused of concealing her daughter’s diabetes, and failing to provide her with appropriate medical treatment which led to the death by diabetic ketoacidosis.
As the Big Z previously reported, court documents indicate the girl was diagnosed with diabetes more than five years earlier and alleges there is no evidence she was ever treated for the disease. Investigators seized a number of items used to treat diabetes from the girl's home following her death, but much had never been used.
