A dedication, blessing, ribbon cutting and open house was held yesterday at the new Moeller Cancer Center at OSF St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton. It was a chance for the community to celebrate the expansion of cancer care at the Alton hospital, and offer the public a chance to see what’s inside the building.
The $14 million, 15-thousand square foot facility will see approximately 600 patients a year, allowing cancer patients another local option rather than having to travel to St. Louis for care. An enclosed walkway connects the center to the main hospital building just off Central Avenue. Mike Moeller (MOE-ler) and his family donated $1-million towards the completion of the center and have pledged ongoing financial support. He told those assembled on Tuesday the center will meet every need:

Bishop Thomas John Paprocki from the Catholic Diocese of Springfield presided over the blessing, a tradition for any new building or expansion in the OSF HealthCare system. The building will officially open to the public on Monday.
