A man from Ferguson is facing new charges in connection with recent attempted robberies outside stores in Madison County in December. Investigators believe they have connected 41-year-old Earl Barber to four additional incidents after he was shot by police during his attempted escape from an alleged armed robbery scene on December 30 in Glen Carbon.
In that case, police say Barber, and another man, robbed a woman outside the Glen Carbon Walmart store and then fled in a vehicle, reportedly shooting at other vehicles in their escape. Officers from multiple departments pursued the car into St. Louis County and Barber was later shot and injured by a Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy before he was taken into custody. Investigators from Glen Carbon, Collinsville, and Edwardsville then met to compare notes and worked with the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office to file additional charges in connection with previous incidents at the Collinsville Walmart on Dec. 27 and Dec. 1, at the Edwardsville Target store on Dec. 14 and a separate incident outside the Glen Carbon Walmart on Dec. 4. Barber is newly charged with two counts of armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, theft, and unlawful possession of weapons by a felon. His new bond is set at $250,000 and he remains in custody in St. Louis County.
