Almost 8 years ago, the City of Wood River gave a portion of downtown a facelift with its Streetscape Phase 1 project. The area of Wood River Avenue and Ferguson saw upgrades that resulted in the newer look to that area. Now, as part of Phase 2 of the project there is a new sign welcoming visitors to downtown similar to the one entering St. Louis’ Grove neighborhood.
Public Services Director Steve Palen tells The Big Z this is part of a plan to breathe new life into that area of the city.

Palen says the city is considering a third phase that could take improvements all the way down to 4th Street. So far, the city has performed upgrades to sidewalks and crosswalks, and adding decorative lights and signs
