Lewis and Clark Community College will have a new president by the middle of next summer. Dr. Dale Chapman’s contract expires at the end of next June. He was not renewed at last (Tuesday) night’s board meeting, despite an hour’s worth of public comment, with 25 of the 26 who chose to speak, speaking in favor of keeping him.
The first of the 26 people to speak was former Madison County Judge Duane Bailey.

Those voting to get rid of Chapman were Board President David Heyen, and those he campaigned for in the April election: Julie Johnson, Kevin Rust, and Charles Hanfelder. Those who voted to keep Chapman were Dwight Werts, Brenda Walker McCain, and Robert Watson. A motion to renegotiate his contract also failed with the same split. Werts addressed the crowd and the board after the vote:

There was a large police presence at the meeting, with at least three Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies joining several campus security guards at the meeting. It appears they were not needed, as the crowd filed quietly out of the building after the meeting was adjourned.
