Virginia Kirkpatrick, the founder and former executive director of Operation Blessing in Wood River has died. Working until retirement on her 90th birthday in October 2018, Kirkpatrick helped provide an estimated 4-million meals, or about 100,000 per year. She died last Sunday.

Current Operation Blessing Board President Frank Akers tells The Big Z she operated the charity efficiently and effectively but would do what she had to do to get what the organization needed.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1-5pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, where services will be held at 10am Monday.
