A sewer project being done by Illinois American Water will have a portion of Broadway in Alton closed for about a month, beginning Monday. The road will be closed in each direction between Pearl Street and Washington Avenue as the utility installs a new sanitary sewer main.
The water company is doing work around the city, and this is a small part of what they have planned over the next couple of years. In a previous interview, Illinois American Water spokesperson Karen Cotton told The Big Z the entire project is complex.

But that does not mean work will occur in one area for 24 months. Rather, projects will continue to progress throughout the various neighborhoods during that time period. Cotton asks everyone to use caution while in the areas of the construction. The detour for this project will utilize Route 143 and the Cpl. Belchik Expressway, according to information provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
