Recognizing the hard times many are experiencing during the ongoing pandemic, the Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery is reaching out to a handful of local charities. For example, the refinery is donating $20,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Alton, recognizing the gap that will be created by United Way funding losses.
Refinery spokesman Melissa Erker tells The Big Z they have also donated 132 frozen turkeys to Crisis Food Center, the result of a “pay it forward” gift from many employees that gave up theirs up as management at the refinery passed out turkeys to employees recently.
The refinery has donated a total of $50,000 to four local food pantries to meet the continued need, $12,500 to each pantry.
