Solar panels were the topic of plenty of action at Wednesday's Alton City Council Meeting. Aldermen approved special use permits for installations at three different addresses scattered about the city. They then approved a change to the rules that states they would not require a special use permit for roof-mounted solar panels unless they are in a historic district.

In other council business, a special use permit was approved under a suspension of the rules for a used car lot at 4134A Alby Street, which is at the corner of E. Delmar Avenue. And the resolution to create a change in the city code to create Cultural and Heritage districts was approved. That will now go through the ordinance process, which could take another month.
