Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. There were 361 suicides during the past 10 years in Madison County and 264 in St. Clair County. Many of those were by physicians and healthcare professionals, so an upcoming seminar will focus on that aspect and attempt to identify remedies.
According to statistics one doctor commits suicide in the U.S. every day — the highest suicide rate of any profession. Madison County Mental Health Board Executive Director Deborah Humphrey tells The Big Z there is a free seminar planned for February 27 at Memorial Hospital Belleville.
