A department head in Wood River that just happened to be on the Walgreen’s parking lot on Monday morning is being credited with helping to bring four alleged cigarette thieves into custody. Four people from St. Louis were arrested on Illinois 255 shortly after the robbery was reported to police. They were pulled over in a vehicle stolen out of Missouri.
Police Chief Brad Wells tells The Big Z the Public Works Director deserves a lot of credit.

Wells says the motive appears to be the theft of the cigarettes. One woman was released, but three are now charged. Charged with Burglary, Retail Theft, and Offenses Related to Motor Vehicle is 49-year-old Terrence D. Gleason. 46-year-old Jesse Robinson is charged with five counts of burglary and five counts of retail theft over $300. Multiple counts are related to previous thefts from Walgreens. 43-year-old Shakira Y. Miller is charged with burglary and retail theft over $300, due to a reported theft from Walgreens on August 19. It is believed the group also hit the nearby Wal-Mart prior to Monday’s incident at Walgreen’s.
