The first major winter storm of the season is expected to roll across Missouri and Illinois today and tonight, continuing into most of Saturday. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from Noon today until midnight Sunday for the Riverbend area and we could see 6-8 inches of snow before it ends late tomorrow night.
The National Weather Service says the storm is picking up speed and we could start to see some snow across the area by midday, with heavier amounts expected later this evening, overnight and into Saturday morning. Travel is expected to be dangerous at times, especially overnight, so motorists are urged to stay off the roads if possible. The system is rather large, so a good portion of central and eastern Missouri and central and southern Illinois will be in the area where the heaviest snowfall amounts are expected.
