24-year-old Amanda K. Runtz of Godfrey has been sentenced to six years in prison for Aggravated Driving While Under the Influence and Causing Death, a class 2 Felony and Aggravated Driving While Under the Influence, a class 4 felony.
Runtz was under the influence of marijuana and the prescription drug Xanax (which she was not prescribed), when she caused a fatal accident nighttime in early January of 2018.
Runtz made an illegal U-turn on I-255, hitting two vehicles and killing 30-year-old Marlon D. Buford while injuring 28-year-old Timothy J. Varble.
Circuit Judge Richard Tognarelli handed down the 6-year sentence along with a 2-year mandatory supervised release following Runtz’s time served in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The State asked for a 10-year sentence for the defendant. The victim’s families spoke at the deliberation.
