Susan Gent Scoggins Smith, 77, died 12:51 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2019 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Born in Alton, she was the daughter of Ralph Albert and Eleanor Louise (Winter) Gent. On June 15, 1963 she married Robert Fredrick Scoggins in Alton. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1985. She married Robert L. Smith on August 5, 1994 in Godfrey. He survives. Sue was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey and retired as a teacher from St. Ambrose School.
Along with her husband she is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Victoria and David Waterman of Stronghurst, IL, Barbara and Steve Budny of Sugar Land, TX, and Becky and Tim Zebas of Barnhart, MO. Two step-sons and their wives, Gregory and Sharon Smith of Bethalto, and Douglas and Kathy Smith of East Alton. Six grandchildren, Drue (Jodie) Waterman, Paige, Evan, and Chloe Budny, and Ellie and Max Zebas, one step-grandson, Justin Smith and one great grandchild, Rhett Waterman. Also surviving are two sisters, Joanne Gent Bowles (Les) and Nancy Ann Gent all of Godfrey and three nieces and one nephew.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey where a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Father Steven Janoski will officiate.
Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose School.
