Edward Holshouser

Edward H. Holshouser, 81, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, passed away at 7:10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at his home. 

He was born September 11, 1937, in Maryville, Illinois, a son of the late William John and Margaret Elizabeth (Breyer) Holshouser.  He married LaDonna (Alvis) Blumenstock Holshouser on June 9, 1990, at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Edwardsville, and she survives.

He proudly served his country with the United States Army.  In 2002, he retired at the age of 65 from Spectralite Consortium in Venice, Illinois, where he had served as a foreman in the casting department.  He had worked in business and industry throughout his life. 

Ed had served as a referee and a sports announcer for local high school basketball games.  He was a former active member of the Lions Club in Marine and the 508th MP Alumni Association.  He was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church where he had served as lector.  He was a talented and accomplished woodworker.  He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren, whom he loved immensely. 

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses: Vickie Jacober of Moro; Eric Holshouser of Collinsville; Leigh Ann and Jim Acra of Troy; David and Gina Blumenstock of Beach Park; Brad and Laura Blumenstock of Glen Carbon; and Deana and Jim Strack of Maryville; fourteen grandchildren: Justin, Jessica, Lucas, Megan, Lauren, McKenzie, Riley, Samuel, Austin, Molly, Hilda, Josephine, Logan and Felix; one great granddaughter: Amelia; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight siblings: Bill, Robert, Jack, and Jim Holshouser; Betty Stephens, Deloras Rieger, Kathryn Cimiotta and Carolyn Lee.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Monday, January 21, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. 

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, with Father Patrick Gibbons as celebrant. 

Burial with military honors will follow at Friedens Cemetery in Troy, Illinois. 

In lieu of floral tributes, memorials may be made to St. Cecilia Catholic Church Elevator Fund, Hospice of Southern Illinois, or as Masses and may be accepted at the funeral home.  www.irwinchapel.com
