Andrew “Andy” McGovern, 59, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at his home. He was born November 20, 1959 in Granite City, a son of the late Joe and Theresa M. (Biggs) McGovern. Andy had a love for music, was an avid reader, enjoyed watching sports and cherished spending time with his family. He loved his dog Wylie and granddogs, Taco and Eily. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Michael Smith of California; his son, Andrew J. “Drew” McGovern of Granite City; sister and brother-in-law, Elrena and Scott Carter of Edwardsville; nephews and niece, Adam M. and Lavasha Thompson of Maryland Heights, Missouri and Daniel Robert Thompson of Belleville; other extended family and friends. In addition to his beloved mother and father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joe McGovern.
In celebration of his life, a gathering will be held at Al’s 520 Club in Madison from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019.
