Dennis Soffray

Jerseyville 09/08/2019

Dennis Allen Soffray, 73, died at 9:39 a.m., Sunday, September 8, 2019 at his home in Jerseyville.

He was born on August 26, 1946 in Alton to the late Andrew and Vera Almeta (Allen) Soffray.

A lifelong Jersey County resident, Dennis graduated with the class of 1964 from Jersey Community High School and began his working career at the Glass Works in Alton, dedicating 18 years prior to the plants closing. He then went on to work as a Millwright for GKN in Saint Louis, Missouri where he retired in 2006 after 25 years of service.

He married the former Martha Elmore on April 8, 1972 at St. Norbert's Catholic Church in Hardin and together their 47 years of marriage has been blessed with the joys of raising their son and spoiling the grandchildren that followed.

Dennis was content with the simple things in life. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting of all kinds, most especially deer hunting. His family was the center of his whole world and he relished in each and every opportunity he was able to spend with them.

Surviving are his wife, Marty Soffray; a son and daughter in-law, Brian and Terrah Soffray; four grandchildren, Taylor, Chase, Lillyan and Kylie, all of Jerseyville; a sister and brother in-law, Sandra and Danny Hoog of Livingston; cousins, Kim Lang, Tim Allen, Dave Allen and Kelly Allen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father in-law and mother in-law, Evelyn and Earl Elmore.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Private burial will take place at the Oak Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
