Dennis Armstrong

Dennis Ray Armstrong, 64, died at 2:15 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.He was born in Jerseyville on March 15, 1955, one of five children born to Franklin Arthur "Cork" and Juanita Gail (Shafer) Armstrong.A resident of Jerseyville his entire life, Dennis graduated from Jersey Community High School.  For many years he was a manager at various locations for Kentucky Fried Chicken and later began bartending for Argosy Casino in Alton.Dennis will be best remembered for his engaging personality, a wicked sense of humor, and the ability to talk and make friends with whomever he met.  He was very fond of the many friends he had made through the years through the family business, Lake Westside.He also had a great interest in anything associated with aliens and extraterrestrials, and was a fan of the Star Trek franchise, with his favorite movie being "Forbidden Planet".He is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Mitzi and Scott Groppel of Eldred, Marci and Mark Cerasi of Charles Town, WV., Myrna Armstrong of Charles Town, WV., and Darren Armstrong of Jerseyville; a niece and her husband, Danielle and Damon Grimsley of Port St. Lucie, Fl., two nephews, Heath Groppel of Eldred, and Ethan Armstrong of Jerseyville; and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandparents, Ira "Jack" and Mabel Shafer and Earl and Ruth Armstrong.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday.He will be laid to rest in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to his family in care of the funeral home.Memories may be shared at crawfordfunerals.com.
