Samuel Guarino

Samuel R. Guarino, 91, passed away 4 pm, Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Born March 6, 1929 in Wood River, he was the son of John and Antoinette (Stassi) Guarino.

He served in the U.S. Navel Reserves and worked as a welder at the Olin Corporation before retiring.  Sam was a member of East Alton American Legion Post 794, Wood River Moose Lodge #1349, Knights of Columbus, Illinois Lunker Landers Bass Club; and enjoyed cooking and canning peppers.

On September 1, 1951 in Wood River, he married Sally Moore.  She survives.

Surviving also are two daughters, Betsy (Scott) Williams and Paula Guarino (companion, James Panyik) all of Wood River; granddaughters, Stephanie Dizmang of East Alton, Rachel Williams of Wood River; nieces, Cynthia DePew (Jim McDonald), Becky (Wayne) Thein; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Charlotte Moore in New Hampshire.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Guarino; daughter, Peggy Guarino-Brefeld; sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Sonny Tybrski.

Visitation will be from 4-6 pm, Wednesday, December 30 at Holy Angels Parish Church in Wood River.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Thursday at Holy Angels Parish Church.  Father Donald Wolford will officiate.

Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to Alton 5 A's Animal Shelter and/or HOPE Center in Cottage Hills.

Marks Mortuary in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
