Samuel Vandygriff

Samuel E. Vandygriff, 71, of Godfrey, passed away at 7:02 PM on Friday, January 8, 2021 in Jerseyville.

He was born on March 6, 1949 in Carrollton, IL., the son of Horace and Catherine (Nolan) Vandygriff.  He married Nancy Lutz on February 14, 1969 in Alton. She survives.

Samuel proudly served in the US Army, drove a truck for T.J. Transport and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Stephanie (Matt) Lalor of East Alton; two sons, Mike Vandygriff of Jerseyville and Robert (Christie) Vandygriff of Alton; seven grandchildren, Donald (Emily) Vandygriff, Jamie (Jeff Ralph) Dapper, Catherine Vandygriff, Amanda Lalor, Aspen Vandygriff, Steven Vandygriff and Serah Vandygriff; five great-grandchildren, Cloud Vandygriff, Alexander Dierking, Thomas Dapper, Nola Dierking and Hunter Ralph; two sisters, Catherine Vandygriff and Charlotte Vandygriff; four brothers, Harry “Bud” Vandygriff, Joseph “Pat” Vandygriff, Wes Vandygriff and Henry Vandygriff along with several nieces and nephews and good friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Josephine “Mary” Vandygriff and two brothers, Herman Vandygriff and John Vandygriff, a daughter-in-law, Lori Lynn Vandygriff.

A private visitation will be Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.

A private funeral service will be held Friday, January 15, 2021 at Open Door Fellowship in Alton.  Pastor Paul Maggos will officiate.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing, occupancy, and mask wearing guidelines will be followed as mandated by the CDC.
