Mary Coldren

Mary Frances Coldren, known as Frances, age 88, of Glen Carbon, IL, died at 8:02 pm on April 14, 2021, at Meridian Village Care Center in Glen Carbon. She was born September 7, 1932, in Strafford, Missouri, the daughter of the late John O. and Mary A. (Potter) Bradley. She married the late Calvin Richard Coldren on August 29, 1952, in Strafford, Missouri.  Frances is survived by two daughters, Tamra Coldren and husband Jack Spudich, of Edwardsville and Cathy Weiss and husband Brent, of Glen Carbon; five grandchildren, Evan Ray, of Houston. Texas, Abigail Spudich, of Denver, Colorado, Shelby Ray- Weiss, of Ft. Worth, Texas, Bradley Spudich, of Edwardsville, and Lily Weiss, of St. Louis. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cal, her son in law Steve Ray, 4 brothers, Joseph, George, Bill, and Clifford Bradley and 3 sisters, Norma Bradley, Lorraine Bradley, and Laura (Bradley) Self. 

Frances worked in the Circulation Department of the Edwardsville Intelligencer coordinating the paper carriers and later as the YMCA Meyer Center Fitness Center Childcare Coordinator and the Childcare Coordinator for St. John's United Methodist Church. 

She was an energetic, creative volunteer and provided many opportunities for children in her communities as a Girl Scout leader, Room mother, Sunday School and Bible School teacher and PTA president. Frances was a member of St. John's United Church in Edwardsville for 50 years and served in many ministries. She will be remembered for her talents, love of children, warmth and hospitality. Frances loved God, her family and her community and demonstrated that love with countless acts of service. 

According to her wishes she will be cremated and then buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. There will be a memorial visitation from 10:00 am -11:30 am on Saturday, May 15 followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:30 am at St. John's United Methodist Church with Rev. Grant Armstrong officiating. Masks and social distancing are required. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church Building Fund. Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com.
