Betsy Bartosiak

Betsy K. Bartosiak, 93, of Godfrey, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022, at her residence under the care of Vitas Hospice.

She was born on September 11, 1929, in Gary, Indiana. The daughter of Lawrence Ashbridge and Elizabeth Mae Magness. She married Edmund Bartosiak, Sr, on April 23, 1949, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granite City, he preceded her in death on December 10, 2002.

Betsy was a former member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Bethalto before joining and attending St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. She was a Girl and Boy Scouts leader, as well as a room mother. She volunteered her time for many years as a secretary at Our Lady Queen of Peace School and Church, and later was a volunteer for St. Anthony’s Hospital. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, but most importantly of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her children, Sharon (Lee) Gonterman of Bethalto, Edmund (Barbara) Bartosiak, Jr of Jerseyville, Richard (Cheryl) Bartosiak of Bethalto and David (Teresa) Bartosiak of Godfrey; grandchildren, Bryan (Andrea) Gonterman, Alyssa (Nick) Smith, Trevor (Lindsay) Gonterman, Beth (Trent) Morgan, Kathy (Bill) Vandevord, Christy (Josh) Lievers, Amanda (Kyle) Toti, Kimberly Bartosiak and her husband Brandon Wojcik, as well as Ava Bartosiak; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Isabella, Henry, Lillian, Weslee, Avery, Grant, Caden, Zachary, Noah, Josalyn, Aubrey, Wyatt, Clara, and Lucy. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, Edmund, she was preceded in death by her brother Lawrence Ashbridge and grandson Jeffrey Gonterman.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022, from 4 pm to 7 pm, at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at 10 am, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Edwardsville.
